Being the Star Wars Geek that I am, I
often find myself browsing the interwebs for one various Star Wars related
thing or another, whether it be collectors items, LEGO, or seeking info on a
certain topic. It was during one of these browsings, I found the Star Wars
parody webcomic, Blue Milk Special (BMS) around
half way through last year.

It really sets the scene for anything
and everything that follows. Straight away you can tell it's going to be a
parody. The first storyline follows the entire first movie, pretty much scene
for scene, with a couple extra scenes to play with some certain characters a
little more.

That is a strip added on after wrapping
up A New Hope (ANH), there's a couple others that also deal with some of the
digitally remaster scenes.
All the characters have been redone in
a similar comic fashion, but each has a very unique personality. BMS also
explores other story lines in the Star Wars universe, as well
as developing side stories to fill in gaps between other major story
lines, or create more of a background for a certain character. One series is a
parody of the Star Wars Holiday Special. It's ok if you don't know what that
is, I didn't before reading the comic - it's a very lame and poorly written
only-on-TV movie, if you're actually interested just look it up on YouTube. The
parody however is quite funny and clever. Another strip series follows Splinter
of the Mind's Eye (the lower budget sequel to ANH had it not have
been a hit).

This strip
comes towards the end of the story. The last frame parodies the
original Ralph McQaurrie art
for the story. Note Vader's Star Trek coffee mug, and Leia's ciggarette,
traits BMS gave each character. Click for Full Size
The storyline is a little odd, but the main
problem comes from the fact the we're already familiar with what happens in
the Empire Strikes Back, but if you can pretend that never happened, you
might understand it a little better.
Most recently however, kick-starting this week is their parody of Empire. This is, for a lot of fans, the best Star Wars movie ever, and last May celebrated its 30th anniversary. Below is the first strip to come. |
The site updates 1 to 3 times a week,
Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and you can also vote
for BMS for Top Webcomic. Doing so
reveals a bonus strip, updated every couple weeks, the strips follow side-story
lines to explore other characters out side the film stories.
