Nothing to do with the Peter Sellers movie. This the is follow-up post I promised from my 21st Birthday. Naturally, I had a party. And naturally, it was awesome. I wanted to have a Star Wars theme, however not all my friends are into Star Wars, so I accommodated for that by having a 'Geek and Sci-Fi' theme. The plan was to somehow try and convince Kate-Lyn to come as Princess Leia in the slave outfit that Jabba the Hut makes here wear in Return of the Jedi. Well, imagine my delight we she suggested it herself.

Yeah, she's hot, and she's mine. Oh, and she made that costume...from scratch. The bra was made from Sculpey Clay, moulded around a wire frame. The skirt plates are cardboard templates with various decorative things stuck on. There's various places on the internet you can get instructions/guides on how to make one, and I believe Kate-Lyn used a combination of them. You can buy Slave Leia costumes, but they're on average $50 plus shipping, are made of foam, and look like shit. To make one will cost around $70-80, but the end result is definitely worth it. Plus, you can make it to fit you better, particularlyif you have big boobies, exhibit A above. The one downside is, you'll be bloody freezing (May down here in Australia is Autumn...). On the other hand, it's a great outfit to chill in when it is Summer.

So who am I? I'll give you a clue - on the left. I didn't make the Boba Fett costume, I bought it, the 'Boba Fett Supreme Edition with Collectors Helmet'. Whilst you certainly can make your own, and there's many forums that list suppliers for parts etc, it takes a lot of time and it's much more difficult (especially if you don't have the right machines and tools. This particular one cost me just over $650 from the Costume Supercentre. Their site advertises it for $699, but if you do a Google search you'll find a 10% code. They are the cheapest site for the Star Wars Supreme Edition Costumes (also available are Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Chewbacca and a couple others). Normally prices are more than $900, and most places do shipping for minimum $50 (if you live in Australia like I do, you'll be lucky to find shipping for less than $100), so as far as price goes, I'd definitely recommend them.
The costume itself, I'd give about 3.5 out of 5. First of all, there's only 2 sizes to choose from, each of which fits a range of sizes itself. So if you're at the lower end of the range, it's going to be too big. That's not a fault in the costume as such, just unfortunate. Having said that, it'd be fairly easy to modify the jumpsuit and vest so they fit better. The armour pieces look pretty good, but are kinda flat. Most people I know have a rounded chest, so flat isn't going to sit too well. Also the velco patches don't align too well, so it's a bit tricky getting them into position. The jetpack is pretty cool, but also fragile, and cracks fairly easily. Overall, it's a bloody awesome costume, but it'd work a lot better if I was a big bigger. A big plus from it all though, it's a great template for modifying and making your own parts, which I fully intend to do. For example, extra tinting on the visor, motorised thrusters, permanently attached (and remoulded) armour, etc. It's a great start for something I'd otherwise never get the chance to do. And my birthday was the perfect excuse to buy it.

Vader-cake is awesome...

Jealous? I know you are, don't lie. Not only do I get the sexy girl and a Boba Fett costume, but I get Vader's head served to me on a platter. My mum did a lot of research, trying to find someone to make an awesome cake. I didn't know what sort of cake I was getting, but had a fairly good idea it was Star Wars related. Just so you have a sense of scale, it's pretty much life size...as in, that's Vader's head, right there. Yeah - huge. Oh, and it's a mud cake. The detail is amazing, what can I say, it's just an awesome cake. Again, just like on my actually birthday, I received many awesome presents, so I can't talk about all of them other wise this post would be huge. And again, there's some that will have a post of their own in time. But for the moment, let me just say one thing.

Let me just point out, 21 is 8+, so you can't say I'm too old for Meccano. I'm studying enginneering, so really this is quite an appropriate present, and to be honest, a genious idea from my friends. There's instructions for 30 different models, and it even comes with a 6 volt motor. If you're creative then really there's no limit on what you can build, other than size.
I'd like to finish up by saying a big thank you to every one who came to my party, and for the awesome presents. Also thanks to my parents for organising it. It was quite the 'Sex, Star Wars, Rock and Roll' of parties. To everyone else out there, you've got less than 24 hours to vote in the latest poll, which I don't think can technically be classified as a poll with only 2 votes. So do your part, make it legit.
